About the project

Dubai’s flagship Waste to X project
Kanadevia Inova, together with BESIX Group, delivered one of the world’s most ambitious Waste to X projects: the Dubai Waste Management Centre. Commissioned by Dubai Municipality, we designed, built and operate this state-of-the-art facility that turns municipal waste into clean, reliable energy.
As a cornerstone of Dubai’s “Net Zero 2050” strategy, this project sets new benchmarks for efficiency, sustainability and long-term value.

Solution

Powering 120,000 households

High-performance technology, built for long-term impact
The plant processes up to 1,890,000 tonnes of municipal and industrial waste each year and generates 193 MW of electricity — enough to supply around 120,000 households.
At its core is Kanadevia Inova’s advanced air-cooled reciprocating grate technology. Five high-capacity lines, each with a nominal throughput of 53.6 tonnes per hour, ensure efficient and reliable waste treatment.
The combustion process powers a four-pass boiler system that produces superheated steam, which in turn drives the turbine to generate clean electricity.

To meet the highest environmental standards, the plant uses a robust three-stage flue gas treatment system. Dry sorption with hydrated lime and activated carbon ensures effective removal of pollutants, while selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) keeps nitrogen oxide emissions safely within limits.
An enhanced combustion control system (CCS+) further optimises combustion performance and minimises emissions, ensuring stable, efficient and transparent operations.

This project reflects Kanadevia Inova’s dedication to innovative, sustainable Waste to X solutions — protecting the environment, recovering valuable resources and creating long-term value for communities.
