About the Project

The Jönköping biogas plant processes regional biowaste and provides buses and garbage trucks in the city of Jönköping with upgraded biogas in the form of bio-CNG. The organic fertiliser produced in the process is used in local agriculture.

As the owner, Kanadevia Inova was responsible for the design, construction and operation of the plant. The majority of the project financing was provided by Kanadevia Inova in partnership with the Swedish Green Investment Fund “Klimatklivet”.

Solution

A showcase project for Sweden’s decarbonisation strategy

The Jönköping plant uses organic waste to generate biogas, which is then upgraded to biomethane and used as a renewable transport fuel.

This is done by means of membrane-based gas permeation. The biogas-based natural gas is injected into transport containers and taken to two CNG filling stations. It is used to fuel natural-gas-driven vehicles operated by a regional waste management company, buses in the local public transport system and gas-driven cars.
